In Meiji-era Japan, Satoko hopes to marry into a prominent family and make her father proud. Her abduction puts that future at risk. To survive an encounter with the assassin Shinpei, she offers him marriage—a promise he takes seriously.
The official introduction describes a romantic suspense story. Satoko’s family obligations pull against her feelings, while Shinpei’s devotion comes with jealousy and violence. The mystery behind her kidnapping gives the relationship its immediate stakes.
